A Printer with New Technology…Really?
When moving into an apartment the first thing you try to set up is definitely not the printer and computer. First it’s the kitchen and the bedroom. And those darn ink-cartridges that cost a fortune and have to be replaced like every five seconds…what a pain. Well it was just a few weeks ago, when my boyfriend finally set up my computer and hooked the printer to my desktop, that I began looking around for the best prepaid phones to get while we waited for his contract to expire.
My printer would not print the information I needed, and when it finally did, it wasn’t the information that showed up on my print-preview. Instead I got a whole bunch of advertisements, which was a waste of paper and a lot of ink.
I started looking around for ways to stop using so much unnecessary ink printing off information (or lack thereof), that shouldn’t need printing. What I found was that one company may not have found the magic technology to stop using so many ink cartridges, but they have found the way for people to see their document before printing. People can actually view what their printing, crop the document, and edit the page to be printed. Finally people will be able to only print the information they really need. What it is so surprising is that the firm with such an innovative and life-changing idea and design insist that they have no intention of manufacturing their product.
What is the Artefact firm waiting for, some big name company to steal their idea and make millions off the new printer innovations?
The new printer concept comes at a time when printer sales are slowly diminishing and when printer companies don’t know where to go to create new technology. One website shows that between the years 2008 and 2009, printer shipments went from over 64 million to 53 million. Surely since 2009 printer sales have further declined. Instead of creating something more innovative and appealing, printer companies create more features, buttons, and options. Ferrnd Van Engleton, the Director of Design, for the firm agrees that “there are so many companies stuck in the space throwing on more and more features.”
With the “See What You Think” printer, the tech-savvy consumer sick of buying so many ink cartridges can conserve usage, because they can use a little black toushcreeen to edit both documents and photos. What’s so cool is that the editing is all done with the touch of the fingers. The printer would be able to be hooked up to cameras, computers, tablets, and phones. It sure would be nice if someone decided to manufacturer this printer; hopefully, the original inventors’ will have that pleasure.
